In the world of search engine optimization, there are really only two different subjects that you need to be concerned about. Off page optimization includes links that are coming into your website and Google considers this to be the most important thing as far as where they are going to rank your website in their results pages. Another type of optimization, however, is on page and although this does not get as much press time as the off page optimization, it is still something that is very important.
There are several different things that you need to keep in mind whenever you are doing the on page optimization of your website. Some of these are very important and will make a large difference in how much traffic you will receive from the search engines. Let's take a look at the three main things that you need to do in order to optimize your pages properly. Doing these consistently will get you more traffic and will rank you higher.
The first thing that you need to keep in mind is that the key words or keyword phrases that you are targeting need to be included at specific areas on your webpage. On the page itself, it should be included towards the top and preferably, at a larger font than the rest of the webpage. It is not always necessary for you to use the H1 tag, but at times it does help. You should also include them throughout the webpage but make sure that you do so naturally so that you do not stop the keyword and receive a penalty.
One of the most important places for you to include your keyword phrase is in the title tag of the page. This is not only important for the on page optimization of the site but it will also result in more clicks whenever it does show up in the search engine results. If somebody searches for that keyword phrase and your website is available, that keyword phrase will be bolded if it is included in the title tag. Includ it every time and make sure that you include a unique call to action and you will receive more traffic from the same amount of searchers.
One final thing that you should keep in mind for on page optimization is known as latent semantic indexing. This is a relatively new theory in search engine marketing and it may or may not be having a large impact on the results pages within Google. Although an entire book could be written on the subject, it really has to do with using related keyword phrases to whatever it is that you are targeting. If Google is truly using latent semantic indexing, it will recognize these other keyword phrases as being relevant to the search and you will rank higher as a result.
There really is not all that much more to on page search engine optimization. As long as you use the keyword phrase in specific areas and use it naturally throughout the page, your website will be optimized and you can go about working on the off page optimization.
